After the standard particulate filter, DaimlerChrysler offers a retrofit package for Mercedes-Benz diesel cars
- A unit for the C- and E-Class models will initially be available via Mercedes-Benz workshops as of this fall
- Commercial vehicles already attain Euro 4 and 5 compliance today with BlueTec diesel technology
- Dr. Thomas Weber: “In a leading position worldwide in the re-duction of emissions and exhaust particles, with innovative solutions for all categories”
As of fall 2005, a diesel particulate filter retrofit package will be available for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. This technology will initially be available for the Mercedes-Benz C- and E-Class models. With this system, which will be available via Mercedes-Benz work-shops, the prime concerns are functional consistency, reliability and cost-efficient, uncomplicated retrofitting. Mercedes-Benz’s compe-tence in exhaust gas aftertreatment is providing the basis for a cus-tomer-oriented solution that is setting new standards.
“Our particle filter retrofit package once more bears out our high com-petence in diesel technology and is a decisive step towards environ-ment-friendly, fuel-saving vehicles,” emphasizes Dr. Thomas Weber, member of the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG with re-sponsibility for Research and Technology and the Development of the Mercedes Car Group.
By providing an efficient retrofit package, DaimlerChrysler is making a sig-nificant contribution towards active environmental protection. As soon as the German federal and state governments reach an agreement on appro-priate tax benefits for retrofitting older diesel passenger cars with particle filters, such a solution will prove cost-efficient for Mercedes-Benz custom-ers. Already on March 1, 2005 Mercedes-Benz was the world’s first auto-motive manufacturer to announce that its entire range of diesel pas-senger cars, from the A-Class to the S-Class, will be fitted with a parti-cle filter as a standard feature from summer 2005 in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland. This measure extends to 30 vehicle models in all.
Since fall 2003, Mercedes-Benz has been offering the combination of Euro 4-compliant exhaust unit and diesel particle filter. Unlike those of competitive makes, the innovative particle filter system developed by Mercedes-Benz is maintenance-free and does not require the use of additives. It is characterized by longevity and everyday operability, and maintains the diesel engine’s fuel economy. More than 130,000 Mer-cedes-Benz passenger cars have already been delivered with a diesel particle filter in Germany alone.
Since the beginning of the 1990s, DaimlerChrysler has reduced the fuel consumption of its diesel vehicles by more than 25 percent and particle emissions by more than 90 percent, among other things as a result of the common-rail technology developed by Mercedes-Benz.
In the case of commercial vehicles, Euro 4- and Euro 5-compliant ver-sions with BlueTec diesel technology will be offered. With a reduction of noxious exhaust components by up to 80 percent thanks to exhaust gas aftertreatment on the basis of SCR (selective catalytic reduction) technology and considerably reduced fuel consumption, DaimleChrysler already today meets the requirements of the Euro 5 standard, which will come into force in October 2009 for vehicles with a permissible gross weight in excess of 3.5 tons. With Euro 5, the lim-its for nitrogen oxide emissions will be lowered by 60 percent and for particle emissions by 80 percent. Already today, more than 90 percent of customer orders are for Euro 5 vehicles. Dr. Thomas Weber: “With innovative solutions for all categories, DaimlerChrysler is in a leading position worldwide in the reduction of emissions and exhaust particles in road traffic.”

Según el artículo en principio serán válidos para todos los CDI de cualquier clase. Por la información que tenía en los 270 de la clase C no sería posible montarlos, pero bueno, me llevo una alegría, por lo menos hasta que sepa el precio. ;-)
